On September 3, 2024, Dr. Shogan marked the anniversary of the Treaty of Paris. “Signed on Sept. 3, 1783, it ended the American Revolution and formalized international recognition of the U.S. as an independent nation! On September 4, 2024, Dr. Shogan reminded her followers that the National Archives has more than 500 logbooks of U.S. Coast and Geodetic Surveys now available in the National Archives Catalog. Information contained within these logbooks may interest genealogists and historians. A typical logbook contains daily entries of the ship’s position, the ship’s movements, weather conditions, and descriptions of the day’s surveying activities. On September 5, 2024, Dr. Shogan celebrated the anniversary of the groundbreaking of the National Archives building in Washington, D.C., in 1931. The building was recently designated a National Historic Landmark. You can read more about the designation here.
