On August 5, 2024, Dr. Shogan posted about Katharine Lee Bates and her inspiration to write the opening lines of the poem “America the Beautiful” while traveling to Pikes Peak. The Denver National Archives has over 600 cubic feet of records from the Air Force Academy, including this photo of Pikes Peak from 1945.
On August 8, 2024, Archivist of the United States Dr. Shogan shared a collection of images, on her X account, from her visit to the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library. Here Dr. Shogan is pictured with the staff from the Presidential Library.
The Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum marked the 150th anniversary of the birthdays of Herbert and Lou Henry Hoover with an exhibit and months of commemorations culminating with Hoover’s Hometown Days, an annual event in West Branch, IA. You can read more about the events here.
