On October 16, 2024, in celebration of American Archives Month, Archivist of the United States Dr. Colleen Shogan shared this letter on X from New England Patriots coach Lou Saban asking President John F. Kennedy if he would like to join the team as a receiver. The letter was included in this July 26, 2024, JFK Library Archives: An Inside Look blog post, featuring archives staff sports picks. On October 18, 2024, Dr. Shogan shared a link on X to this National Archives News article highlighting the importance of NARA’s Subject Matter Experts. To help enhance the researcher experience, the National Archives developed the Subject Matter Expert Program. The program began in 2018 with five subject matter experts. Now the team has 12 experts, including a recent addition in women’s history hired in March 2024.
On October 19, 2024, Dr. Shogan welcomed everyone to another National Archives Sleepover! Dr. Shogan shared many wonderful photos and stories from the event on her social media channels. The National Archives has hosted sleepovers at the National Archives Museum since 2014. Children between the ages of 8 and 12 and their chaperones experience the rare opportunity to sleep beside the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States, and the Bill of Rights. The following morning, they are treated to a pancake breakfast served by the Archivist of the United States. 🥞
